The Premium Kornbrand

The Berliner Brandstifter Kornbrand is a 7fold filtered premium grain spirit from Berlin. In Germany this specific spirit is commonly referred to as ‘Korn’. It is characterized by its exceptionally high purity and its particularly mild taste. Each bottle of Berliner Brandstifter Premium Kornbrand is bottled and numbered by hand, thus one of a kind. Every edition of the Premium Kornbrand is stored in a 700l cask, before being bottled into batches of 1,000.

The Foundation

The wheat used in the production process is grown exclusively in Germany and categorized as quality class 1. Over 15,000 grains of wheat go into the production of a single 0.7l bottle. With an ABV of 38%, the spirit is defined as a ‘Kornbrand’ – a specific German term for a grain spirit, sometimes also referred to as ‘Double Korn’ or ‘Premium Korn’.

The Premium Kornbrand is produced in accordance to the strict guidelines German Purity Law of 1909. Thus only whole grain wheat, rye, barley, buckwheat or oat cultivated on soil in German speaking countries is used. Additional flavourings, aromas and coloring agents are hereby forbidden. Flour, corn and residues or scraps from mills etc. are not permitted in the production process. Likewise, mixing the Korn with other types of alcohols or additives is prohibited.

Destillation

The wheat undergoes several complex distillation processes and is filtered 7fold. Thus the maximum degree of purity is achieved. In addition, impurities which could possibly effect the flavour or aroma are reduced. As a result, the wheat’s fine notes are subtly preserved.

Berliner Brandstifter is produced at the skillful hands of the family run business, Schilkin. The Schilkins have been producing spirits on the Alt Kaulsdorf Estate since the 1920s. Successfully passed down through four generations, the business has won several awards over the years. Today, it is lead by engineer Patrick Mier, the grandson of Sergei Schilkin.
